“I like to call this my art therapy - I’ve been painting ever since I was a little girl, but in 2020 I really leaned into feeling my feelings on canvas. Paint strokes, smashes, swiping, wiping, and mixing can all be done in anger, frustration, sadness, joy, contentment and just about every other emotion. I highly recommend it. As a native of the PNW, I like to paint scenes that are comforting-familiar, so you will see mountains, seas and trees in my work. I’m completely self taught, my rebellious nature does not handle being told to sit in a box. I use a mixture of acrylic and different mediums to play with texture; and my background as a makeup artist has led me to grab a makeup brush to paint with on occasion. Many things in life have no rules - just strange social constructs we’ve built up. I hope my art says something to you, that my creative soul communicates with your creative soul - because when words are lost, there is art. “ -Sharell Katelynn
